Have you seen this story on CNN yet today?

It's about Dawn Loggins, a girl who has gone from homelessness to Harvard. The story chronicles Dawn's difficult (to say the least) life and the resilience and determination that has made her successful.

These are my favorite stories to read and to write. It's sad yet inspiring that the Crossroads has so many of these tremendous kids. I'm reminded of Ebb Garrett, the West High Schooler who overcame his own family troubles to go to college with tons of support from the community. I'm also reminded of Josh Luna, an East High Schooler who didn't let his past get in the way of his future.

I'm sure there are countless more of these amazing kids, their stories yet to be written. But these are the kinds of stories that need to be told -- the kinds that have the power to inspire and uplift complete strangers.

Do you know a student who defied the odds against him or her?
