Afternoon! So, this question is brought to you courtesy of Heath and Ranging Reporter J.R. Ortega. (I always sing his last name whenever I greet or introduce him, and he does the same to me, so excuse me while I say, Orteeeeegaaaa). Okay, moving on. Tomorrow, Orteeeeeegaaa's article about Crossroads mathletes spurred me to ask our reading public what their worst subject was in school.
Mine was, da-dun-nah, MATH! That's right, I'm a righty brain girl. I guess that's a bit obvious considering my profession. When I was in school, I always bemoaned math classes of all varieties. I didn't discriminate, I hated them all equally. I always fared well at the end of the semester, but algebra, geometry, calculus, were consistently challenging. Oh, the nightmares.
But anyhoo, I want to know what your worst subject was in school? English, Science, Math, P.E.? Let me know ... inquiring minds want to know.

Wait, I thought today was half tau day.
March 14, 2011 at 8:54 p.m.Algebra. I did fine with math until somebody wanted me to calculate letters. What's the square root of A? Uhhhhh...
I told my Algegra II teacher in high school that I just didn't understand algebra; I didn't know what X was. Mr. Golden said, "Well, Wayward, X can be ANYTHING." I replied, "If X can be anything, why did you mark my answer wrong?" Poor Mr. Golden just shook his head and walked away.
But, I have to agree with shopper about poetry. Not only is it BORING, but I'm wired way too literally to figure out what the poet was trying to get across. If that's what he meant, why in hell didn't he say it? There was never anything that wasted more time and was more useless than poetry. Since I got out of school, I've read none and, more importantly, nobody has even asked me about it. When seeking jobs, I've never had to analyze a poem. I don't even like the stuff that starts, "There was a young lady from Nantucket."
March 14, 2011 at 5:23 p.m.English was my most dreaded subject, as all of you can attest to. I actually like math.
March 14, 2011 at 4:42 p.m.Poetry! I am actually more of a math person and I never get the subtlety of poets. I tend to always take them for face value. I always made terrible grades on poetry analyzing.
March 14, 2011 at 4:27 p.m.KYLE: THANX (sic) for that delicious tidbit, but NO THANKS. I'm more interested in the volume of this big crockpot over here.
March 14, 2011 at 4:11 p.m.It's Pi day today! Did you know that you only require 64 digits of Pi to calculate the circumference of the observable universe?
March 14, 2011 at 2:21 p.m.I'm right with you there - math was awful for me. It still is, actually. I could get my mind around just about everything else but, once you brought numbers into the mix, I was lost.
