Today we went in search of chickens. Not just any chicken mind you, the elusive and rare Prairie Chicken. A creature I have never seen. Though thus far it has hidden from my eyes, I have been told stories about the pitter patter of their feet and the haunting calls from chicken to chicken across the prairie. I was excited to see them for myself.

Sara and I both got up awful early (way too early in my opinion, but those chickens are early risers) to finally get to see these creatures. We were very excited, today was going to be the day! Unfortunately, when we got out to the Prairie, the sun was already hot and they were laying low. I didn't really blame them, freshly sunburned from the beach yesterday, I could only sympathize with them. I'd be out of the sun too if I could.

We hope to catch them on another day, bright and early when we might have more luck. In the meantime, I got a few photos of wildlife on the prairie which was quite beautiful, if momentarily chickenless.
