Dear Alice: My dad has been pushing me to make the football team for a while, and I don’t even like playing. Just to make him happy I tried out, but I found out I didn’t make it, not even JV! How can I tell my dad I can’t be his star quarterback son because I didn’t make the team? -Athletically Challenged

Dear Athletically Challenged: First of all, congratulations on putting yourself out there and trying out for football. That shows a lot of courage and strength to try out for a sport. Secondly, it’s OK that you didn’t make it! You said yourself that you don’t like to play, so why ruin a semester doing something you don’t enjoy? You need to tell your dad that you didn’t make it, because stalling will just make it worse. Your dad only pushes you to try sports because he wants you to do your best and learn responsibility and teamwork. HE will love you as his son no matter what you do. Is there a sport that you like better and enjoy doing? If so, tell your dad you want to find a team in that sport. Then your dad can help you do better in it and you might grow closer as a family. If sports aren’t your thing at all, that’s ok too! I bet there is something out there that you are good at, just focus on that talent and I’m sure you will do great. -Lots of Love, Alice
