Dear Alice: My sister and I “share” a car. Well, really I have to call for a ride from one of my friends because she refuses to take me to school when I need to be there. I have early morning practice for an hour before school, but my sister won’t wake up early enough for us to leave on time. She doesn’t even want to call one of her friends for a ride because it’s “inconvenient for them.” It’s not fair for me to have to beg a ride from someone else when she could get up and come with me to school. -Stopped Motion

Dear Stopped Motion: Have you tried talking to your parents about a car schedule? They can probably convince your sister to get ready in time, and even out the car usage between you two so that you get to practice and she has a ride to school. Also, calmly explain to your sister that you need the car in the mornings and she either needs to catch a ride with someone or get up earlier and go with you. Make a type of pick-up schedule so that on Monday’s you get a ride form a friend, Tuesday’s you and your sister get to school together, etc. If all else fails, one day when you need to get to practice and she isn’t ready, leave the house without her. Call one of her friends to pick her up so she has a ride, though. Maybe after she learns you’re being serious, she will respect your practice times and get up earlier. -Lots of Love, Alice
