Image Early Saturday morning around 2:30 a.m., I was awakened with a loud boom. The electricity flickered off and on several times. Jumping out of bed, to look out the window, I could see people gathering at the entrance to Castle Hills West off of Salem Rd. I knew that something was seriously wrong, so I got dressed and made my way to the front of a local business, to see what had happened. By this time, several police officers and firefighters were on the scene of the accident. They were waving me to go back, as there were live electrical wires laying across the front driveway of Interiors By Sherry. To my surprise, I saw an extended cab Chevy Silverado upside down, entangled in electrical wires with part of the electric pole dangling above, as the rest of the pole lay several feet in front of the truck. The tailgate of the truck was propped up on the corner fence post and music still playing inside. Worried that someone was seriously injured inside the truck, my stomach knotted up, only to find out minutes later, that the driver had fled the scene on foot. The electric company arrived a short time later to turn off the electricity to the live wires, so that police could investigate the scene. Many neighbors from Castle Hill West gathered and talked about what they had heard and seen. Soon after the wrecker service came, loaded the Chevy and hauled it away. The electrical company worked all morning until around 12:00 p.m., to replace the electrical pole and hook up electricity. Our neighborhoods were out of electricity for about five hours, along with several businesses in the area. Salem Road has had several accidents lately with vehicle rollovers. This street has become a stretch of road where many people like to street race in their vehicles and motorcycles. Stay safe and watch out for reckless drivers.
