Drinking in Texas may get a little more expensive in the new year.

A new sales tax implemented on mixed drinks was recently passed, and starting Wednesday businesses will have to decide how to handle the cost, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

House Bill 3572, which is one of 50 new laws for the new year, will drop the taxes that businesses pay on liquor from 14 percent to 6.7 percent, and instead, a 8.25 percent sales tax on mixed beverages will be passed on to consumers.

Beer and wine are already taxed at the same rate.
