We had a great interview broadcast with Victoria City Councilman David Hagan, who is running for re-election to single-member District 4. If you missed this broadcast, we will post it to the Advocate Web site soon.
Remember, Hagan's opponent has cancelled his broadcast that was scheduled today at 4:30 p.m. James Martinez said he had a personal family emergency to take care of and will reschedule next week.
Sincerely, Tim Delaney Community Conversation Editor

thinkyoushouldknow,
So what changed between then and now? Are" powers that be" now considered "the powers that were " and are no longer powerful?
April 9, 2009 at 9:37 p.m.Yume: You had asked me why did Hagan say something before now.. Okay, well who was going to listen to him the "powers that be? I understand what he means. You don't know until you are in the position.
April 9, 2009 at 9:20 p.m.Just for fun, and to use when the appropriate time come, I'm copying this thread. When this matter's devils have been exorcized in court, I will remind everyone of his remarks now.
Should be fun, huh?
April 9, 2009 at 9:01 p.m.Yume--are you reading the posts or just skimming? CJ has it linked in her post. Scroll down, click on, let it load and choose on demand.
It's priceless! Well worth the trouble to find it.
April 9, 2009 at 7:25 p.m.Speaks like a true politician--vomits verbage, but has no substance.
Said he was proud of his hopes and plans, yet failed, when asked, to identify any completed project.
Said the TML attorney 'scared the living life' out of him, but apprently not enough to act sooner.
At one point said, "I believe this is what I believe about why I'm telling the truth." HUH?
Said he wants to be open and honest and accountable to the public, but sat on something this important for how long?
It is clear to me that Hagan lacks integrity, character and honesty, and he should be replaced on the Council. He continues to assert that his opponent was recruited by *mysterious* people to run against him. Baloney!
Referenced the forum at the Dem meeting--stated something about his opponent liking Elvis. I was in attendance at this forum and the only person to mention Elvis was Hagan. Martinez never mentioned Elvis. It's a tired non-joke; give it up Hagan.
Victoria, I would very carefully review what Hagan is about. It has nothing to do with integrity, character and honesty. It has everthing to do with lies, scheming and a self-serving personal agenda.
Vote early and vote for a proven leader--James Martinez.
April 9, 2009 at 3:06 p.m.Good Job Don!
April 9, 2009 at 11:38 a.m.My take on this is that MAYBE Hagan is attempting to break up the "old school gang" of the 'names' who have manhandled the system for several years now...
MAYBE - and IF Hagan is taking a stand for the people of Victoria, WHY DID HE WAIT THIS LONG TO FOLLOW HIS CONSCIENCE????
Did he just now start loosing sleep over the "illegal happenings" of the past 3 YEARS??
WHY is he FINALLY taking a stand for the community...the damage was taking place all along, and he stood idly by???
April 9, 2009 at 11:14 a.m.Re: the question of why Hagen waited two years to blow the whistle. That's easy! He realized that he has serious competition in the upcoming election and needed publicity to cast himself as a beleagured hero.
"Oh the pain! For two, looonngg, terrifying, years I just didn't know who to turn to- who to trust!!??!! I talked it over with my wife and family, but that didn't help. It was truely agonizing, but I finally realized that I MUST, I MUST be brave!!! (muffled applause along with several boos and hisses)
I must admit that while listening to his interview, I felt a tingle run up and down my leg just like that clown from NBC gushed about after hearing Obama's acceptance speach at the Dem. convention. In my case though, I think it was because my foot fell asleep.
Adjectives about the interview that come to mind - whiney, smarmy, sniveling, etc., etc.
April 9, 2009 at 10:49 a.m.I think this whole thing proves that I need to be on City Council! Because I am really, really, smart. And I smell good!
April 9, 2009 at 9:28 a.m.The 2-part interview is easily accessible...(thank you Cj).
Has anyone else taken the time to view them? Anything concerning about the content, specifically the questions Mr. Hagan avoided?
April 8, 2009 at 2:50 p.m.As Tim said we expect to transfer the recorded interviews soon here on our site, but in the meantime, you can watch the interviews on our Mogulus channel here:
http://www.mogulus.com/victoriaadvoca...
Under the screen of the Mogulus player you will see an "On Demand" button, click on it and all recorded interviews will be listed. We had technical difficulties with Mogulus, so the David Hagan recording is in two parts.
If you have problems viewing the video, let me know. You can send me a message at cjcastillo@vicad.com.
April 8, 2009 at 2:34 p.m.To me, the interview revealed that there may well be a place in the digital age for The Advocate.
April 8, 2009 at 2:24 p.m.(sp) Mr. Chris Cobler...
April 8, 2009 at 1:47 p.m.Mr. Cobbler asked Mr. Hagan two news-related questions, both concerning his allegations of the "illegal council meetings held at Moo-Moo's".
ONE: Did he (Hagan) participate in these meetings, and TWO: IF he did/did not participate, but was aware of these 'illegal' meetings THEN, why has he decided only now that they were inappropriate and,or illegal?
He replied, by admitting his involvement in at least 1 meeting, and having the knowledge of them throughout the past 3 years. However, Hagan NEVER addressed the second question in any form. Does this not sit well with anyone else?
Lastly, does this mean the allegations made against his colleagues, include himself (he was, and still is part of that group)? Does association by knowlegde have any significance here?
