In advance of the Victoria Advocate editorial board meeting Wednesday, I'd like to hear your concerns about the community.
Are there issues we should write opinions about?
Let me know; post your concerns below where is says, "comment." We appreciate your input.
Sincerely,
Tim Delaney - Community Conversation Editor

I suppose we see things a little differently, exresident. I sometimes wish the VicAd would just stick with "hard" news reporting, but the Op-Ed page is a different scenario; because it contains opinion and, yes, conjecture at times, I take it all with a grain of salt. I expect the opinions I see as par for the course for that page. I, too, see that posting it online is indeed a "horse of a different color"!
You have yourself a safe, enjoyable holiday weekend, exresident.

Offended? No. Did I not understand? No. My opinion stands as stated.
Unfortunately, far too often, what is read in newspapers is interpreted as fact regardless of the page it was printed on, "Op-ed" or not. I believe this issue came up recently in regards to a local history teacher's letter to the editor regarding president Obama's birth certificate. If you remember the incident, then I imagine you will see that the whole hubbub surrounding it bolsters my position; once more, that vicad should avoid printing "opinion and conjecture."
...Now, posting it online is a horse of a different color.
Enjoy your holiday weekend!
July 3, 2009 at 6:32 p.m.exresident - I can't believe I'm going to defend the VicAd, but here goes.....Mr. Delaney is speaking of editorial articles; i.e., the Op-Ed page, which ALL newspapers possess in order to publish opinions by various authors. Some writers on the Op-Ed page are citizens, some are syndicated columnists, and yes, some are indeed editors and employees of the newspaper. Even I am not offended by this. Why are you? Or do you just not get what Mr. Delaney was talking about?
July 3, 2009 at 5:59 p.m.IMO, Mr. Delaney, vicad should avoid "opinions and conjecture" as much as possible.
