Image The comedic icon would have been 100 years old today. The “I Love Lucy” is truly a classic. I watched some of the episodes with my grandmother as a child. During the show we weren’t child and adult - we were just entertained. Laughter erased the lines of our age difference.

On the family-favorite show, Ricky Ricardo would tell his domestic wife to stay out of trouble. But, curiosity would get the best of her every time and Lucy had her best friend, Ethel, along for the ride.

Each episode I hoped the beloved character would behave, or at least not get caught. But that rarely if ever happened. I knew it on the inside too. Lucy, the character, didn't mean to harm anyone. She just wanted more out of life. That sentiment is shared by many. Her facial expressions were priceless.

The “Job Switching” episode really stands out in my mind. The BFFs get jobs at the chocolate factory. Their no-nonsense supervisor said they would be fired if any treats made it to the packing room unwrapped. At first, the doting duo managed, but shortly thereafter... things went haywire.

To avoid being reprimanded, Ethel and Lucy put the candy anywhere they could find space. The stern boss returns to the room pleasantly surprised and yelled to production, “Speed it up a little!”

Lucille Ball had a long-standing career because of her pure talent. Our pop culture has shifted. Some “celebs” 15 minutes of fame as long as they can, whether it’s by a leaked photo, tweet, or tape. It's unfortunate that this type of behavior gets rewarded.

One day, I plan share the “I Love Lucy” show with my future granddaughter and she will return the favor with hers. I hope people are still chanting “Happy Birthday Lucy!” 100 years from now.
