American Airlines has made headlines twice this week. The Fort Worth-based carrier made a bankruptcy announcement and most recently, a family is seeking $1 million, according to CNN article. Family: In-flight meal killed flier. Please click here to read the entire article.

The widow and daughter of the late Othon Cortes, of Miami, are suing the airline and Sky Chefs for because they claim he ate food that was contaminated with Clostridium perfringens bacteria.

Last week, a lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Miami. for the May 18 incident.

American Airlines declined to comment, and the meal provider LSG Sky Chefs, has begun the process to dismiss the case, said spokeswoman Josefine Corsten (according to CNN article).

Cortes's wife said that he complained of discomfort and nausea during the flight and had a cardiac event. The plane had an emergency landing in Norfolk Va. and the victim was pronounced dead on arrival.
