When I read this on CNN; I jumped to conclusion- simply that the state was completely out of bounds.
As more information becomes available, perhaps the state is exactly correct- merely postpones something that sound like it should have been addressed 50 plus pounds sooner. (Using state as generic label, could/should have been school, church leaders, family medical provider.
We do not know the lifestyle, etc. about the family. As always, one is attempting conclusion without the facts.
In any event, the child's life must be protected and promoted. Perhaps removal from home is the best path. Lot of complications with that as well in regards to the child's well-being.
