"The Simpsons" could be cancelled after 23 seasons on the air because of contract issues. 20th Century Fox wants the cast to take 45 percent pay cut.

The actors are willing to make less money upfront, but they would like more money on the back-end for syndication and merchandise.

Most people cannot afford to have their salaries cut in half. But on the other hand, they don't earn $500,000 every time they show up to work.

The animated television show has been a Sunday night staple for many years. It's opened doors for other adult-like comedies like Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland show.

Every show runs its course eventually, but as a fan, I don't want to see it go.
