Maybe I'm just getting older (and likely dorkier, if that's possible) but I always get a little upset when I drive by homes and see cockeyed sprinklers that spray sidewalks, driveways and the street. I'm not a tree-hugger, but c'mon. I voiced this pet peeve to coworkers last week, asked for feedback and received a mix of jabs and ideas. The end result is that I'm beginning work on a story about water restrictions, and why, amid a drought, the city has not enacted any this year. How bad does a drought have to get for water restrictions to be enacted? I'm curious to hear from you, too. Do you get mad when you see residents or businesses wasting water? Do you know of locals who regularly do so? Feel free to comment in here, or contact me at gsemenza@vicad.com or 361-580-6519. I appreciate your help, Gabe Semenza / Advocate public service editor

Well, when the VicAd glorifies that beautifully landscaped lawn on Navarro in last week's lifestyle/gardening section, don't you think this comes across as a little hypocritical?
How do you think that lawn is maintained? Sure ain't been from heavenly precipitation lately.....
April 21, 2009 at 12:56 p.m.It upsets me, but a lot of the blame is the water is not billed out at a multiple levels of use. Water is still cheap enough to waste. I have lived in cities that have 4 price levels based upon gallons used.
