Dow Seadrift began laying off workers today, reports from the area chemical plant indicate. These layoffs were first mentioned earlier this month.

Trish Ritthaler, a Dow spokeswoman, refused to say just how many workers will be affected.

Are you one of those who were laid off? Do you know a friend or family member who was laid off?

  • My friend worked for Abbott Lab until 8am this morning, when she was notified she was laid off, along with 2,050 pther people. She had no clue it was going to happen either. I heard Microsoft was laying off roughly 5,000 starting today.
I had heard Tandy Brands was most likely going to lay people off after the buyout went through.  Yoakum can't afford to lose jobs.  Between Mexico & the Chinese, Yoakums workforce is going to be suffering.

  • I wish all the affected the best of luck pulling through these hard times.

I don't see many jobs in this area, but there are still plenty of people hiring people with technical backgrounds outside of Victoria.

  • Kind of unrelated, but I have heard that Tandy Brands in our neighboring Yoakum area is laying off people - heard, but not sure if it is accurate that 27 people have been laid off since last week.

  • I was notified early this week that I would be staying with Dow. I wish I could say I had a good, fuzzy feeling, though. Several of my friends are being laid off. It's like being at a funeral, seeing them go, one by one.

Times are tough. We need to stick together and quit criticizing each other and the people in office. It doesn't help to bite each others head off. Try being nice for a whole week. Is that so hard? Nope.
