This weekend, "Pepper" played James Brown songs to a packed house at the Downtown Bar & Grill. Apparently, this famous Victoria fixture is talented on the microphone.
Pepper was there with dozens of others to listen to live music. I'm told Pepper grabbed the mic during a break from Michael Jackson tributes and he belted out a few classics of his own.
Did anyone hear Pepper sing? Did anyone get video of his performance?
As you may know, Pepper is one of 25 people nominated for the ”Crossroads’ Most Fascinating” series. Voting for that series ends Wednesday, July 8.
If Pepper is a finalist, we'd like to include as part of our feature video of him singing.
Thanks for your help,
Gabe Semenza / Advocate public service editor

I like the Gorilla at Tom's.
July 5, 2009 at 12:53 p.m.I don't know about now, but back in the 80's behind my apt was where he kept his stuff & did his laundry. It didn't bother me, I've never had any problems with Pepper.
July 2, 2009 at 11:59 p.m.I know for at least the last 6-7 years he has not been homeless.
July 2, 2009 at 11:30 p.m.Then I wonder why he used to live behind my apt downtown. He used my fence to dry his clothes.
July 2, 2009 at 11:17 p.m.Pepper is not homeless, he's just never AT home! He has family that takes care of him. True, he does walk all over town, but he's got a home.
July 2, 2009 at 11:13 p.m.I would assume since he's homeless that he can't afford jerrycurl. Just because he's black doesn't mean he uses jerrycurl. You are the king of pointless, unamusing comments.
BTW, someone else was offended by your comment as I didn't flag it for deletion & yet it is gone.
July 2, 2009 at 11:06 p.m.don't laugh! jerrycurls are oily or have you never been around a person dripping or flinging oil?
July 2, 2009 at 8:20 p.m.Gee Archie, pretty racist remark & so NOT funny.
July 2, 2009 at 7:52 p.m.WoW! I haven't seen or talked to pepper for many many years, I did see him on youtube and wonderd if it were the same pepper. Good for him he has a fallowing!
July 2, 2009 at 7:48 p.m.Next time you give pepper money, just think he is going to turn around and buy some crack with it. So to all of you who think pepper is harmless, thanks for contributing to the transaction of illegal narcotics.
July 2, 2009 at 3:36 p.m.Pepper was in the military and saw to much that he could handle. That is where is illness began.
July 1, 2009 at 7:57 p.m.Pepper is Victoria's own Wesley Willis. Wesley Willis was a chronic schizophrenic, but he found a way to channel the otherwise debilitating mental disorder into art, music, and a fan favorite of "bumpin' heads." Similar to Pepper, Wesley achieved a sort of cult following; unlike Pepper, he was lucky to have a very tight-knit group of people that always made sure he was well taken care of. His death in 2003 from chronic myelogenous leukemia was the cause of my brother's absence from work on August 21st of that year.

John123, could you please clarify why he's so dangerous?
The only thing that Pepper is dangerous towards is the mechanical gorilla at Tom's Vacuum, from what I can tell. Unclarified statements like that cause unnecessary fear rather than reasonable caution, so please, feel free to clarify.
Gabe, Pepper is an AWESOME singer! Go YouTube "Pepper Victoria Texas" and you'll find a few vids of him singing.
July 1, 2009 at 1:13 p.m.Pepper is a dangerous person, be careful around him.
July 1, 2009 at 12:30 p.m.I've heard about Pepper's YouTube page, but I've never visited it. Is it true? Is he a quality singer? -- Gabe
July 1, 2009 at 12:25 p.m.Pepper is also on YouTube!
June 30, 2009 at 11:34 p.m.hey gabe have you seen his myspace page.. he has about 5 or 6 songs on thier that he is singing.
