Everyone know someone with a fascinating story to tell. The Advocate wants to celebrate those people.

To begin a new series, called the "Crossroads 10 Most Fascinating," we begin by asking you to submit five candidates who fit the bill. You remain anonymous.

Candidates must simply be captivating or interesting.

Candidates must live in Victoria, Jackson, Lavaca, DeWitt, Goliad, Refugio, Calhoun, Wharton or Matagorda counties. And they must be still living. No historic figures for this series.

Your votes will be counted to form the list of the 25 most fascinating people in the region. In two weeks, a story will detail the names on that list.

Then, you'll vote to whittle the list to 10. In-depth profiles about each person will follow - beginning with the 10th most fascinating.

Any candidates come to mind?

  • Hardin is a good one... the rest would be a waste of news print

  • Great suggestions, everyone. Thanks. I'll make sure the nod to Aprill Brandon doesn't go to her head :)

  • Okay, here are my nominees:

Francis Adlehardt - She is the woman who rides the 3-wheeled bike around the city collecting cans. She is a remarkable woman with plenty of tales to tell.

Dr. Stephen J. Hardin - a professor at VC who has written several books on Texas History and has consulted on a few films, including the "Alamo" remake....

    The Famous "Pepper"!

    Gary Moses

    And --- Aprill Brandon!

  • I'd like to submit Phylis Canion of Cuero, Texas and Chupacabra fame. Though the latter is not why I'm suggesting she is a fascinating person. Phylis is an educated world traveler who can inform and amuse when telling a story of her treks throughout the world. Ask her about the spider in Gabon.

If I think of four more I'll get back to you.
