Victoria County's population growth from 2000 to 2008 ranks 41st among the 254 Texas counties, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

Victoria County's population in 2000 was 84,088. Its population in 2008 was 86,755. The fastest-growing counties are the usual suspects: Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, Bexar and Travis counties respectively.

Forty-one on a list of 254 remains noteworthy, it seems. Why do you think the county ranks 41st?

Advocate reporter Lourdes Vazquez works to find that answer. If you'd like to chime in on her story, contact her at lvazquez@vicad.com or 361-580-6578.

She would like to interview anyone who moved to Victoria County recently.

Thanks for your help,

  • Sounds awesome to me. Do you honestly want to live in the largest-growing county in the state?! I sure don't. Moved here almost five years ago, and found the small size to be one of the best features.

No need to rush off to be like Harris Co, now... some of us like it just the way it is.
