Because I'm not a meteorologist, I can't say for sure what type of cloud this is -- a funnel cloud, for example -- but it looks menacing.
Did you see this cloud, which was photographed by Janice Pineda and e-mailed to us? The cloud is seen near Constitution Street and east of Navarro Street.
Have any other photographs to share?
Thanks for your help,

Woof Woof
I forgot to ask you something. you ask has anyone heard from them meaning the Emergency Manager and County Fire Marshall, why don't you call them and get you answers instead of getting on this comment area and not knowing what it is they do. I am sure if you pick up the phone and have an intelligent conversation with them instead of making accusations you could get your answers. The County Fire Marshal number is 579-9103 and the emergency manger is 485-3362. Call them and get your answer.
September 10, 2009 at 9:49 p.m.The County fire marshall cannot do anything about a funnel cloud in the city because he does not live in the city!
September 10, 2009 at 9:18 p.m.Woof Woof
I do not understand why the county fire marshall would have anything to do with a funnel cloud or how he could alert everyone of a funnel cloud. Should he yell out in the air and hope the ten people who are near him hear the word and pass it along, how is that his job. As for the Emergency Manager that is their job and there are two of them in the city/county for just this purpose so lay the blame where it belongs. Let me ask you how a funnel cloud in the city is the job of the COUNTY Fire Marshall, where was the Victoria Fire Dept with over five stations and over a hundred men? Your not singling them out? In my opinion your opinion is wrong, seems you have a bias, did the County Fire Marshall give you a ticket or something? Maybe bitter because you got caught? What is your bias? How can the COUNTY fire marshall handle a CITY funnel cloud issue and what can one man do to save the day, does he have a cape that is red and has a big S on it? Super County Fire Marshall!!! Ohhh the cape says SVCFM or Super Victoria County Fire Marshall. How could he know to alert the city who he does not even work for when we have emergency management people to do this? Hey get a weather radio they are selling in stores and channel 25 advertises so you can know when we have funnel clouds.
The media needs to put the information out also, I bet the County Fire Marshall's in Oklahoma have a hard job running in front of the funnel cloud yelling at the top of their lungs to warn people!!! Woof Woof, you really need to think about what you write and gather the facts.
September 10, 2009 at 9:11 p.m.We were under a "tropical funnel cloud warning." It looks mean, but trust me, I grew up in Tornado alley....this is not a tornado.
September 10, 2009 at 9:45 a.m.The National Weather Service reviewed the photo and said it was not a funnel cloud, although it resembled one. Sky watcher David Tewes probably can explain this better.
September 10, 2009 at 8:27 a.m.Does anyone know why the local media had nothing? Will they have anything in the future?
In my opinion, the County fire Marshall and city emergency manager should have been on top of this. Anyone hear from them? I thought so.
September 9, 2009 at 11:12 a.m.We were actually under a funnel cloud warning for yesterday through the weather center. Just wasn't publicized on tv's. We found it online at The Weather Channel.
September 9, 2009 at 8:32 a.m.Definitely a funnel cloud, folks.
September 9, 2009 at 8:19 a.m.I got a couple on my iphone from about 3pm at Aloe School - not touching down though
September 8, 2009 at 11:39 p.m.If that was the one this morning before 8 am - I saw it from the VC campus...If it was NOT from this morning, I saw one just like it from the VC campus. Looks very much like a funnel cloud...I've been in a few tornadoes and at least one looked just like that. But I never saw any warnings or anything about a tornado in town.
However, something that big, if it were anything, would be more than a funnel...most of the time funnels are smaller and don't get big until they touch down. It would be interesting to get a meteorologist's opinion on it, though.
