(Updated below: A recent Harvard grad's thoughts on the potential impacts of the iPad having a camera.)

If you've followed news about the iPad since Apple's Steve Jobs announced the product on Jan. 27, you're probably drowning in rumors:

1) Pre-orders start this week. 2) The device will ship with a built-in camera. 3) A production bottleneck will halt shipment of the WiFi version until April.

And on and on ...

We won't really know which rumors hold up until Apple releases information, of course. During his keynote speech, Jobs said the first versions ship out later this month. I signed up to be notified when pre-orders kickoff, and so can you: http://www.apple.com/ipad/notify-me/

So, are you going to buy the Wifi-only iPad version? Hold out for the 3G version, which supposedly ships a month later? Hold out for a second generation version? Avoid the much-hyped device altogether?

I tell myself I'll be able to wait for the second generation device -- one that will hopefully have a camera, a few other bells and whistles and a lesser price. Ever since I bought an iPhone, though, I'm weak when it comes to cool mobile devices.

I'm beginning work on a story about the pros and cons of buying the iPad. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for the input,
