  • UHV should maintain ties with the outstanding and high standing UH system. That is obvious. UH is our neighbor and has provided leadership, investment and status to our students, city and citizens.

The opposition is mired in fantasy and fraught with mystery.

There is a need for expansion and cooperation will certainly bring that about.

Room to grow....If there is one thing that Victoria has a lot of at the moment it is public, semi-private and private land to grow upon.

    Form follows function.

Let's put the law school, justice and architects down town in what are now vacant or underutilized buildings and grounds.

Let's put an art program down town.

Let's put some business classes at the Mall. Some film classes in the cinema.

Well, you get the point...not brain surgery.

How about some farm/ranch training around here?

  • I would think these kind of 'negotiations' usually takes place behind close doors, very tacky of local leaders and 'Morrison Commission' if you ask me. Just goes to show you the questionable quality of people involved here.

Either they're bluffing u of h and have not one serious offer from TT or TT is ready to run with this. With the right programs in place, I could see this school growing to 5k in a very short time. Expanded Medical programs / expanded Education programs would seem like a good start. A basic engineering program would also be a boom, (mechanical / civil / chemical / EE / some type of engineering lite degree).

I just don't see U of H interested in those type of expansion plans for this campus as they seem much more concerned with their Houston area campuses.

  • Well, ya know, they think they know how to run a university better than a university system does, go figure.

  • I am embarrassed by the actions of some of the folks here in Victoria, particularly when they make demands (as if they were in a postition to demand anything) citing as the reason that UH has not invested in Victoria.

True, we do not currently have a Regent from Victoria, and we need one, but they have developed a rather impressive athletics department, agreed to downward expansion, and put some additional bricks and mortar on the lawn over there on Ben Wilson and Red River.

What more do they want? Well, except for the University to pull up stakes and trot out Highway 59 to the somewhere near the airport, so the City can build a road.

I still believe the UH System has made the correct decision AT THIS TIME. Will this still be the correct decision this time next year, when they are trying to figure out where to house another incoming class of freshmen? Who knows.

The benefit is to have the abilty to continue building on what we already have, rather than starting from scratch in some areas.

What is the Morrison Commission on Education going to do if they realign, and the new host doesn't see eye to eye with them? Are we going to go shopping every year? That would be an excellent way to kill what we do have established. I have a feeling this bunch is going to continue to push and shove. Maybe they should push and shove for a Regent from this area first.
