  • Economic development, quality of life, etc. are all issues that must be driven by private sector dollars, not tax dollars. The absolute worst thing that could happen is for the current "leadership" to get caught up in the frenzy and "invest" even more dollars requiring additional debt to be heaped on taxpayers. Taxpayers don't need any more debt. City, state or federal. We need restraint in spending by every government entity.

    One glaring example can be take directly from the study cited. On page 19 there are projections for population growth of Victoria County. The most conservative projection was a 6.9% growth from 2000 to 2010. The most agressive was a 13.8% growth. The REALITY is a modest 3.2% growth (www.quickfacts.census.gov), less then half the most conservative projection. If dollars are spent based on projections of double digit population growth and the reality is minimal growth (as seen from 2000 to 2010), who gets to "pay the piper"?
