If you've ever seen a journalist at work, then you've seen this notebook.

It's a white, skinny tablet that is often spotted in our back pockets as we multitask shooting video or photos ,or it can be seen in our hands as we rapidly scribble notes in handwriting only legible to the reporter who wrote them.

It's the drawing board journalists initially use to put together their written masterpieces.

From time to time, I'll give you all a sneak peak of what stories I'm working on in my notebook.

Here's this week's selection:

  1. In 1992, a 17-year-old Victoria gangbanger was convicted of murder. Now, nearly 20 years later, we are revisiting the case. The story will detail the facts of the case, what the inmate is up to now, new information about the victim, and how the families of both the victim and the inmate have coped with the crime all these years. I'll hold the names of the people involved for now, but be sure to be on the lookout for an Advocate issue printing soon ( Like my teaser? :) )

  2. Language can be a barrier to communication, especially in The Crossroads. I'll be investigating how language has impacted people's ability to find employment or people's ability to conduct everyday tasks.

If you have any suggestions you would like to add about the stories I've mentioned or any suggestions about something you think might make for a good story about diversity or courts, then feel free to me. I can be reached at 361-580-6521 or gplatenburg@vicad.com. Thanks.
