What does the geek who has everything spend her spare cash on?

Books and tacos.

I had a meeting yesterday at the Hardback Cafe (the cafe located inside the new Hastings store). After my meeting I decided to browse around in the book section. I was looking for one of those calendars where you learn a new word each day. I went to the calendar section, which had slim pickings to begin with, but alas, I found the calendar I wanted. It was half price too, which is why I always buy my calendars in late January.

So next I was obligated to peruse the journal section, because as you know I have an addiction to journals. I found this food diary/journal and decided I wanted that as well. I'm sure I could have just purchased a regular spiral notebook at the dollar store, but what fun is that? This journal has a cute little picture of a chinese food container on the front, healthy food tips and nifty little quotes about food inside. Here are some examples:

After a good dinner one can forgive anybody; even one's own relations. - Oscar Wilde

I like the insight of this next one:

Never eat more than you can lift. - Miss Piggy

I also picked up two books of crossword puzzles from The New York Times, a book about bed and breakfast inns of New England and 'Raise High The Roofbeams, Carpenters' by J.D. Salinger (this is my second copy). Remind me to tell you how I lost a first edition hardback copy of Franny and Zooey, purchased at The Strand, on a subway in New York City. Oh wait, I guess I just told you.

And finally, this morning we splurged on some breakfast tacos. That food entry is not getting a smiley face next to it.

Books and tacos, these are a few of my favorite things.
