A study conducted by SquareTrade revealed that the iPhone is twice as reliable as the Blackberry after one year of ownership.
SquareTrade is a company that sells extra warranties for cell phones. The study showed that the malfunction rate for iPhones after one year is 5.6 percent, compared to 11.2 percent for the Blackberry and 16.2 percent for the Treo.
The most likely cause of an iPhone’s demise, however, is an accident. A full 12 percent of iPhone failures are because the owner dropped it, spilled coffee on it, or otherwise stopped treating it like the delicate computer that it is. That compares to a 9 percent failure rate due to accidents for all other phones, and is twice as high as the failure rate due to defects. [Source: MobileCrunch.com ]
I've had both a Blackberry (used one for a year) and iPhone (purchased this year in July). I never had any major problems with my Blackberry and that was after all the abuse I put it through (drops on pavement, gravel, mud, etc.). Perhaps all that abuse resulted in the problems I did have with my Blackberry (dropped calls, no signal). I've had my iPhone for four months now, and have not had any major issues. I've had a few dropped calls, but that's about it. I also haven't dropped my iPhone. Maybe that has something to do with it.
Speaking of dropping your iPhone, one of the best ways to protect your iPhone is by using a protective case.
Griffin has released the Clarifi, a protective polycarbonate case that has a close-up lens built-in. I've read a few reviews about the Clarifi, and all seem to agree this is a good case.
For more information you can read reviews here:
I've used three different cases since I've had my iPhone:
Incipio dermaShot- Purchased this on iPhone launch day. It was the only one I found acceptable in the AT&T store. It's a nice case, but I need something with more protection when I drop my iPhone (it's bound to happen).
Griffin Nu Form - Ordered online. I like it, but I would recommend purchasing the black case instead of the white one. I bought the white case and the bottom part of shell gets dirty and attracts lint easily. Also, any clothing dye bleeds easily into the bottom half of the case's polycarbonate shell. I put my iPhone into my jeans pocket and it turned the bottom part of the case blue.
Marware C.E.O. Flip Vue - Ordered online. I've only had it a few days and I like it so far. I will probably just use it to hold my iPhone. I don't care to use it while inside the case. I purchased the white case, so we'll see how well this one holds up.
I'm still in search of that perfect case, so I'll keep looking. iPhone users, what case do you use?
