Apple announces "special event" - Apple sent out invites today for a special event to take place on Sept. 1 in San Francisco. The company is expected to announce an updated Apple TV and new iPods. What about news on the white iPhone 4, which has yet to be released? How about it, Apple?

Make calls from Gmail - Google announced that Gmail users can now make phone calls to the U.S. and Canada for free for the rest of the year. Google made this announcement today, and in their blog stated that these type of calls can be useful "in a lot of situations, ranging from making a quick call to a restaurant, to placing a call when you’re in an area with bad reception."
