A tropical depression has formed over the Bahamas, and is expected to become Tropical Storm Bonnie later today.

The National Hurricane Center says the depression has maximum sustained winds Thursday near 35 mph (55 kph).

A tropical storm warning has been issued for the central and northwestern Bahamas, for Florida's east coast south of Golden Beach and also along Florida's west coast northward to Bonita Beach. A tropical storm watch is in effect for Florida's east coast north of Golden Beach.

The forecast tracks show the depression moving into the eastern and central Gulf in the next several days.
