Today was the day we finally learned all the official details about the iPhone 5.

For those following the iPhone rumor mill, some of the things we learned about the iPhone 5 did not come as a surprise. As rumored,we now know that the the iPhone 5 is lighter, thinner and has a larger display. In addition, a new processor is featured in the phone, an A6 SoC, which Apple suggested will double the CPU performance.

The iPhone 5 also has a new 8 megapixel camera, which includes improved low-light performance and is 25 percent smaller than the iPhone 4S camera. The new camera has a f/2.4 lens and is made of sapphire crystal, which Apple says is thinner and more durable than glass. The camera also can take photos 40 percent faster. And one new feature available now is a panorama mode, which allows you to take photos up to 28 megapixels in size.

It was also announced that iOS 6 will be available for the iPhone 4S, 4, the iPad 2 and new iPad on Sept. 19. New features in iOS 6 include an updated Siri, more Facebook integration, Apple's own mapping app, and FaceTime video chat over cellular networks.

Apple has decided it is time to move away away from the old 30-pin connector used since 2003.The iPhone 5 will have an 8-pin connector that is 80 percent smaller and reversible, called Lightning. For those who have accessories using the old connector, you can purchase an adapter for $29.

Apple also released upgrades for their iPod lineup. The new iPod Touch will have an A5 chip, which makes it two times faster than the current processor, and the iPod touch will also have Siri, Apple's voice-controlled personal assistant.
