If you look around, I’m sure you’ll find more than one person updating their Facebook, Twitter or MySpace page. The thrill and ease of being able to let a mass amount of people know what you’re doing in 140 characters is addictive and fun. And with the busy lives we live today, sometimes it’s the only way we can communicate with co-workers, old friends and long distance relatives.

For businesses, as the social and networking worlds expand beyond just mixers and luncheons, more and more people are finding it easier to connect to the world electronically. With the rapid growth and popularity of social media, people have the world at their fingertips.

In an effort to reach out to our donors, the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) has joined the social media world.

We first launched the Connect for Life MySpace page in 2008 to keep in touch with our student donors. Students make up 16 percent of our community blood supply, and social media was a great way to gain feedback on their donating experience.

Next came the Connect for Life Facebook and Twitter pages, launched in July of 2009. Through these pages, we are able to communicate with donors of all ages and the pages are key to our customer service. The feedback we gain, good or bad, is useful to let us know what we’re doing right and what areas we can improve.

Connect with Connect for Life on our social media pages. We post updates everyday from letting our friends, fans and followers know how the blood supply is doing to upcoming events across our service area. We’ll also update you on our other services: marrow, tissue and cord blood. Connect for Life and join our network!
