The Qualifications for the East and West Positions read Five SUCCESSFUL years as a head coach or coordinator for a 4A or 5A program. I guess that will keep young Finley out of the picture.

  • the d/c today is now the assistant head coach as well. When and how?!? Is it in his contract? I don't know.

This is what will happen. No real good candidates. D/C with new role becomes a head coach.

But if new school...Listen if BF is no longer the head coach and accoutable for his staff then he has no business recomemnding family. Nepotism policy exists on VISD. ALWAYS HAS. 1st affinity for sure.

Dad should retire to keep his family working. If dad is just padding his retirement. imo.

  • I am refering to his son the DC. He only has 3 years of unsuuccesful experience in 5A and the job calls for 5 years as a SUCCESSFUL head coach or coordinator. There is no reason that he deserves a chance at that position. I am sure he could be great as a position coach but not as a coordinator(we have seen that) and definatly not as a Head coach.

  • RGomez- he has dual role. He will let 1 go, the h/c fball spot. So technically you guys are stuck with him.

VISD needs a female director. Plain and simple.

I too have emailed the board to open all head postions to all applicants. They then hire thier assistants. Parents are very concerned and want knowledgable, experienced and aggressive coaches.

Sdad- petitions are great but nobody will put thier name on it. try. The current HS kids now had one to change 1 new hs school colors and VISD at some level said "no". So the kids are trying but the parents can get a hoot.

  • RGomez, that sounds good. But wouldn't a petition do better from what I hear no one can stand him from the JrHi level to most all non football coaches. I agree, it should be open up for all to apply and for him not to appoint positions to the new campuses without the Principals knowledge since he is not AD for the new schools line of command. Why does it have to be a guy??? Lockhart took a solid move and hire a female, we all know!

I just wished someone watches the athletic budget because the spending will get wild and as long as he stays below the threshold of investigative actions he is LEGAL. Just wandering how many TVs will be bought, laptops, warmup sets, coaches high dollar sneakers that comes from the 'general account'.

  • Jereme Urban played in his first Super Bowl in 2009.
Urban caught 1 pass for a first down from Kurt Warner in Super Bowl XLIII.
    Wiki and weep Coach Reeve...

  • Please remember Coach Reeve chose to put Jerheme Urban on the bench while he put his own son in as the starting quarterback. Then Urban went to Stroman, Trinity and now the NFL. Yep, Reeve knows talent when he sees it.

  • Not that he would ever come back here, but if the qualifications are true, then someone like Mark Reeve would not qualify?

The word is that M. Finley will become the AD next school year. I still believe the right thing to do is take applications for this role since it is a new position. I have written my school board representative asking him to oppose Bob Moore if/when he suggests appointing M. Finley the AD role. I am not optimistic however, since the last letter I fowarded to "all" of the school board members fell on deaf ears.

  • What if it takes 20 years to have 5 successful years?

Here's an interesting factoid about Mickey Finley. He's number 72 on Texas' all-time wins list, but only 4 coaches ahead of him (1-71) in wins have more losses, and 3 of those have higher winning percentages. He's only won 57.2% of his games. The average winning percentage of the top 109 is nearly 67.6%. Only 5 coaches in the top 109 have a lower winning percentage. Let your personal standards for mediocrity guide your conclusions.

These are just cold, hard facts, so please don't accuse me of being too hard on the guy.
