Each Monday, I'll blog about highlights of the previous week on victoriaadvocate.com. Here's the first installment:
Last week was tragic and fatal.
Two house fires destroyed two separate families -- one family lost everything and their 12-year-old son, and in the other, a mother and three kids were left homeless. It was nice to see the community rally around these families and offer love and support. Our news coverage of the incidents ranged from tough to touching to unbelievable.
These are as tough as stories to cover as they are for readers to read. In each case, the reporter and photographer handled themselves with professionalism and respect.
This past week also kicked off the county livestock show, and reporter Allison Miles took us behind the scenes on how a student prepares his lamb for the stock show.
Photographer Frank Tilley gave us a look through his camera lens of the county spelling bee.
And finally, I'll leave you with this factoid I picked up in a webinar and still can't believe: Americans spend 127 minutes a day on mobile apps.
Which begs the question: Just how productive is our society with all these cool digital tools?
Now you'll have to excuse me. I have to text my kid and upload a photo to Instagram while I walk down the hall to the boss' office.
