Put on your tricorn, pick up your muzzle and hang up the Gadsden flag! Today, April 19, marks the start of the American War for Independence at Lexington and Concord. Early in the day, Paul Revere and others were dispatched to warn the colonists "The Regulars are coming!" The Redcoats were ordered to take stores of gunpowder but were met by Minutemen opposed to the government disarming of the people. Who fired the first shot is uncertain, but when the smoke cleared, a number of colonists lay dead and scattered. But the militia was better-prepared when the troops turned to Concord. This time His Majesty's troops beat a hasty and ignominious retreat.
