I'm the first to roll my eyes at Hints from Heloise (If I crush crackers it will make cracker crumbs? If I make mistakes on a crossword puzzle I should use pencils, not pens? You don't say) so if this seems obvious, go ahead and make fun.

I'm not inclined to organize -- but I do need to keep track of FOIA requests. As soon as I make the request, I file a copy. Then, I count 10 days business days on my Outlook calendar, and mark that day as the deadline to hear back from the department I'm requesting records from. If I haven't heard anything by the 10th day, I call. If I'm really anxious and want to speed things up, I'll call before then.

If the answer is a request for an AG review, I pop that into a file folder, too. Then from time to time, I look through that folder and grit my teeth about how long it takes the AG to make a ruling.

See, wasn't that easy? You can all thank me later for pointing out the obvious. Now about the dull spots on the toes of your shoes. They make this wonderful product, shoe polish.....

  • Leslie, telling people ways to get organized is always helpful. it may seem obvious to me and you, but somewhere out there, someone just went "DOH! Why didn't I think of that?" TRUST ME. These are the same people who are clueless what to do with their vehicle blinkers or their trash [hint: don't drop it in the back of your pickup truck], so you may have just saved them some valuable brainwaves that they would no doubt otherwise overexert trying to think of what took you mere seconds to come up with. :)
