Here's an appropriate open-records site to look over this election season.

Here's what I've learned, just this morning: dentists and beer distributors are alike, in that they donate scads of money  and lean Republican. The folks at AFLAC and the National Association of Realtors can't make up their minds.  State, county and municipal employees are the all-time top campaign contributors -- and strongly Democratic.

This is a -- dare I say fun? -- Web site, if you're a total dork like me. I'm tempted to spend the morning searching it. But it doesn't have much to do with my beat and they like me to, you know, work here.

By the way, Open Secrets' top contributors are the Carnegie Corporation of NY, the Ford Foundation, the Sunlight Foundation, Pew Charitable Trusts, the Joyce Foundation and Could Mountain Foundation, according to the site. I bet an industrious person with a little bit of extra time could find out if they've given money to anyone else.

And while you're at it, check out my Sunshine Week open records challenge. Folks, there's a free tee-shirt on the line.

  • Good to know. Thanks
Being a former fed I know why office carpets can be quite large. The higher up the GOV food chain, the bigger the carpet. The government's worst enemy is the FOIA. More than one official has breathed a huge sigh of relief when the storage limits for records have expired.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall seeing your research in any recent articles? Definitely should be.
