I guess the Curse of Pat Walker has finally been removed from the heads of the Palacios Sharks.
The Sharks have ended a playoff drought dating back to 1964 and will play a Class 3A, Division II bi-district game against West Oso on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Victoria.
The Sharks came close to breaking the drought in the mid to late 80s but fell just short.
Walker was coaching Palacios at the time and one year the Sharks came close to the postseason his son, Rob, was a sophomore QB. Legend has it that Walker wanted a two-year contract so he could be sure to see his son's career through but he got only one year and resigned.
Walker went to Lake Travis where Rob played QB before going to Texas and eventually transferring to UCLA. Thus was born the curse.
Palacios never got a taste of the postseason until Mike Treybig arrived and found the magic potiion, which included Henry Solis, Aaron and Alex Buckley, Cody Smith and quite a few others.

Maybe they finally got a coach who decided to play the kids who didn't belong to the so-called movers and shakers in that town. Year after year, the coaches played politics and put the kids with the "right" last names on the field all the time and left talent sitting on the bench, or worse, didn't recruit them at all.
