The biggest game of Week 6 is Refugio hosting George West. Both teams are 6-0 and 2-0 in District 31-2A.

Refugio has been virtually unstoppable on offense but its defense needs work. It will be interesting to see how the Bobcats handle George West's slot-T offense.

Other big games are Schulenburg at Edna in District 28-2A. It looks like four teams vying for three playoff spots and every game is critical. Edna lost to Rice Consolidated last week. Edna has piled up the points but its defense has also given up a bunch. Schulenburg has been fighting through some discipline issues.

Cuero visits Palacios in a District 29-3A opener. Some people think the Gobblers are vulnerable. Win or lose, this is Palacios' best shot at snapping a 43-year playoff drought in a long while. Will the Sharks end the curse of Pat Walker?

  • I was wondering if you have noticed any changes in coaching styles in your years of covering sports? what do you believe makes a good coach?  I am the mother of a young athlete and sometimes question the coaching styles of his coaches.
It seems to me that the days of coaching bullies are gone, but I could be wrong.  I just need some understanding of what is appropriate  with dealing with sub-varsity players.

  • If you enjoy watching high school football folks, this year's Refugio team is a MUST SEE. I saw them play Hallettsville and the strength, quickness, and football ability of some of the bobcats will make your jaw drop! Their games are exciting and they are the most talented and fun team I've seen in a couple of years anywhere. More than once that night I caught myself wondering "How the heck did he DO THAT!" They have a solid running/passing/kicking game.
