As a long-time Los Angeles Lakers fan, Game 6 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night was painful to watch.
There's no doubt Boston had the better team and deserved to win the series, but the Lakers' performance was one of the worst I have ever seen.
They were not only outplayed, they were outhustled. The Lakers didn't show the desire necessary to force a Game 7, much less to win a championship.
Phil Jackson may be the greatest NBA coach of all time, but he didn't coach like it. Kobe Bryant was the MVP and he may be the best player in the league, but he didn't play like it and he still hasn't won a title with Shaquille O'Neal. Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom were in the words of Bill Walton, "horrible," "terrible." Soft is too kind a word for their performance. The bench was non-existent.
The Lakers couldn't shoot, they couldn't rebound, they couldn't pass and they couldn't play defense. But worst of all, they didn't play with the heart to be a champion.
I just hope Jerry West wasn't watching.
