If you happen to see a member of Jerheme Urban's family, be sure and say thank you.

Urban attended high school at Stroman went on to play college football at Trinity University in San Antonio and is now playing wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals.

Urban traveled to Victoria from his San Antonio home on Saturday to hold a free football camp for high school receivers and quarterbacks.

The camp was tremendous, even in the 100-degree heat. There were at least a dozen instructors and those who attended get hands-on instruction from high school coaches and former teammates of Urban at Trinity.

It didn't cost the athletes a penny, thanks to the generosity of Urban and his sponsors. The campers got lunch and a T-shirt along with their instruction.

Nathanael Hasselbeck, who played football at Boston College and is the brother of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, worked the camp and was right on when he pointed out how few professional athletes give back to their community like Urban and how lucky the campers were to get such expert instruction.

Urban hopes to make the camp an annual event and held out the possibility of expanding it in the future.

Urban overcame long odds to make the NFL from a Division III school. There's no doubt he's a great athlete, but he's also proven to be an outstanding person.
