I learned long ago that minor surgery is someone else having surgery.
I was reminded again just over a week ago when I underwent hernia surgery for the second time.
I also discovered what a difference age makes. I remember bouncing back quickly from my first surgery. I was swimming in less than two weeks and back to my normal routine in very little time.
That hasn't been the case this time around. I only missed a few days of work but to say I was back at full speed would be a lie.
The truth hit home after coming back to work last Wedesday and working mostly in the office through Friday. But Saturday I went to Cuero for the Gobbler Relays and Sunday I covered a UHV baseball doubleheader.
Fortunately, I had Monday off. I couldn't get out of bed until 2 p.m. and was tired all day.
I'm obviously not as young as I used to be. But I felt better when I heard that Moises Alou would miss a month after undergoing hernia surgery.
