Shiner trailed Ganado 21-7 at halftime, but scored on all five of its second-half possessions to win the District 27-1A game in Ganado 42-21.
Shiner made good adjustments at halftime on offense and defense. The Comanches remained tied for the district lead with Burton, which beat Louise 42-21.
Shiner has good size on the line. Quarterback Matthew Hibbs does a good job of executing the veer and Josh Greathouse is a powerful running back with good moves.
The Shiner defense is aggressive and after some early problems, did a good job containing Ganado.
Shiner also has a good punter in Brady Beal and a good kicker in Drew Stafford, who missed one extra point after a bad snap.
Shiner's biggest weakness may be the lack of breakaway speed. That could be a factor against Burton and in the playoffs.
Elsewhere around the area, Calhoun will take a tumble in the polls after losing to Gregory-Portland and Goliad established itself as a playoff contender with a win over Gonzales.
