Refugio and Industrial went to the fourth quarter of their game in Refugio tied at 18.
Refugio, ranked No. 4 in the state, went on to win 32-15, but both teams can take away positives from the game.
Refugio got the win and upped its record to 4-0. The Bobcats are young at the skill positions and seem to be getting better in every game. Their running game has really improved and Terrence Smith topped the 100-yard mark against Industrial.
The passing game produced over 200 yards and will improve when quarterbacks Kyle Hendley, a junior, and Aaron Perez, a sophomore, get better at reading defenses, which will come with experience.
Industrial is a young team that shows a lot of promise. Matt Anderson is the real deal at running back and sophomore quarterback Austin Smalley shows promise.
If the Cobras can improve in the passing game, they will be a difficult team to stop.

plain and simple, the boy might be a good running back but it takes a whole team to beat a team of refugio's caliber
September 29, 2008 at 9:39 p.m.Mike,
September 27, 2008 at 1:05 p.m.Matt Anderson is more than just the real deal at running back. He is arguably the best running back in the area and one of the best in the state in class 2-A ball. Here's the kicker, "why not use him more?"
Just last week my family and I watched this tall, slender built running back for the Industrial Cobras run all over a pretty good defense in the Ganado Indians. Anderson rushed for over 150 yards, of which 145 of them came in the first half. Well in the first half he only carried the ball half the time, and shared carries with other running backs. The second half he touched the ball only twice!!! All of Andersons touchdowns came in the first half as did his yards. Why not run your stud running back more?
Last night in Refugio the first score of the game came on a 32-yard Matt Anderson touchdown. This was only his second carry of the night. On the next Industrial posseion Refugio was so set on stopping the running abilities of Anderson they ceated their safety up and Cobra quarterback Smalley was able to connect on a touchdown pass play right over the middle of the field where the safety would have been. After that series they really don't go back to Anderson for the rest of the half. Without running their stud running back meant that Industrial surrendered possesion of the football to the #4 ranked team in the state in class 2-A ball. Refugio couldn't run the ball against the Cobras so they spread the field and threw short passes to their talented receivers and let them work in open space. This wore down the stingy Cobra defense and enabled the Refugio offense to score.
In my little knowledge of football even and idiot such as myself can figure out that if you have a running back that is leading all running backs in the area in yards/carry, but last in attempts, maybe you should give him the ball more. I believe the Industrial versus Refugio game came down to how often Matt Anderson ran the ball. He rushed for 85yds on 11 carries against the number 4 ranked team in the state of Texas in 2-A ball. The running back for Refugio ran the ball 19 times for a little over 100 yds. The running back for Rice Consolidated ran the ball 31 times for just over a 100yds. Who has the most yards per carry here against a top 4 ranked team in 2-ball here. Can you say MATT ANDERSON?
Having stated all of this my question is why doesn't Matt Anderson get the ball more? Does Coach Doug Kuhlman not want to beat the number 4 ranked team in 2-A ball. With all of the years of coaching experience that Coach Kuhlman has does he not know that if you have a good running back, that's having success running the ball to the outside, you feed him the ball until they stop him? Doesn't Coach know that this will open up your offense to do almost anything else you want to do?
I guess my question is, "WHY WON'T COACH DOUG KUHLMAN FEED MATT ANDERSON THE BALL MORE? DOES HE HAVE A PERSONAL PROBLEM WITH ANDERSON?"
