The deadline is approaching to place my vote for the Heisman Trophy. The top candidates are Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, Alabama running back Mark Ingram, and Stanford running back Toby Gerhart. Dark horses include Houston quarterback Case Keenum. Let me know what you think.

  • Ndamukong Suh #93 DT

    CAREER STATS
    TACKLES FUMBLES FORCED INTERCEPTIONS
    212 0 0 4

    hardly worthy of Heisman mention

    December 8, 2009 at 8:13 a.m.

  • Suh Who!!! performed well below expectations and in fact would have not even been considered without 4 sacks against Texas in the championship game...he had 8 before the game

His solo tackles were nothing spectacular and only proves he played for the moment...

  • The Heisman is based on the year not 1 game...Suh Who???...1 game wonder should not have replaced Keenum in the top finalist...

Gerhart, was in a losing program which he played on a daily basis,,,

McCoy and Tebow are still the top of the list when it comes to who the Heisman should go to...there is no makeup to nothing...they both produced winners and thats what counts...regardless of their last game performance...Suh along with Alabama played well above their overall averages...

    December 8, 2009 at 8:02 a.m.

  • OK. Robbed is too strong a word. I felt that he should have gotten it last year over Bradford and Tebow.

    December 6, 2009 at 2:37 p.m.

  • Let me also say that Suh will be a very rich man very soon. Of all the defensive tackle I have seen in recent years he looks like the surest bet I have seen by far. I'd be completely surprised if he is not a force of destruction, or at least constant double teams at the next level.

That being said, the Texas O-line struggled way too much this year against opponents like Oklahoma and Nebraska. The O-line looks to be the weakest part of the team.

    December 6, 2009 at 2:33 p.m.

  • Personally I'd vote for Gerhart. If its about the best player of the year...

I think I have been most impressed by his play. Especially with the three game stretch he had with USC as the middle game. His running humiliated USC. They couldn't stop it.

Personally I've watched Ingram and I would no sooner give it to him than I would McCoy or Tebow.

McCoy was robbed of the Heisman last year just as Young was robbed in 2005. But you can't give make up Hesimans. Sorry.

    December 6, 2009 at 2:30 p.m.

  • Same Mark Ingram that had a bad day against Auburn and looked like he forgot to show up, right?

    December 6, 2009 at 2:12 p.m.

  • legion357..."whew, spoiled your plan n45, the kicker saved UT's butt"

Whew is right! My dear ol' Daddy used to tell me, "Son, if you can't be good, be lucky." Texas was lucky tonight.

My vote for best college football player in the country -- Nebraska's Suh. I'm not EVEN gonna try to type his first name, but that guy's amazing. It's a shame the Cowboys won't be able to draft him. That young man's gonna be real rich in a few weeks.

    December 5, 2009 at 10:55 p.m.

  • whew, spoiled your plan n45, the kicker saved UT's butt.

    December 5, 2009 at 10:31 p.m.

  • This game is like pulling teeth, it's painful and a grind lol

    December 5, 2009 at 10:03 p.m.

  • What a time for two interceptions in the first half?

    December 5, 2009 at 7:38 p.m.

  • Take Texas and give the points against Nebraska First Half -7 1/2 Game -14 No guarantees, but my prediction.

    December 5, 2009 at 6:41 p.m.

  • BTW, I'm not even a UT fan...just an old SWC fan...go Red Raiders!!! Heisman robbed Graham Harrel as well but, thats the way the ball bounces

    December 5, 2009 at 5:08 a.m.

  • MattOcker,

these are just excuses, McCoy has been robbed the past two years because of miss-guided rules of the conference champion will be decided by the BCS...what a joke...this year he left no doubt and OU sunk early because of injury...thats the breaks

    December 5, 2009 at 5:05 a.m.

  • N45BA,
you should add a Rose Bowl BCS berth to that group as well...laugher, teams with multiple loses have no NO chance of winning the National Championship...or even competing in a conference like the SEC or Big 12

BTW, the Stanford kid didn't even make the cut I gave him atleast 3rd but, I see the real heisman crew looks at the team stats as well...The numbers do not lie

    December 5, 2009 at 5 a.m.

  • The Pac 10 turns in the weakest schedule between the other conferences...come on...San Jose St. Notre Dame and Ohio State were hardly games of counting a tough schedule for USC...then when you get to their conference their conference cannot compete outside the PAC 10...the only reason they have a BCS game this year is because it is mandated the PAC 10 champion with 2 or 3 loses goes to the game...thats the only reason USC with 3 loses gets to stay in the top 20 anyway...it's all about the bowl game and who draws the money...it's not about loses...

    December 5, 2009 at 4:51 a.m.

  • "McCoy will get the trophy. Good line or not, he still is the best and has proven it."

That is what I said "Jack".

He has won more games than any other QB in College football history. That alone should be deserving.

Inferior teams???? LOL There must be a load of disgruntled Aggie fans posting here! Hookem BABY!!!

    December 3, 2009 at 11:24 a.m.

  • Hey Red, I wouldn't go calling the PAC-10 weak, especially not in comparison to the BIg 12. The Big 12 was weaker than the PAC-10 this year, and most years. Look at the North and the bottom half of the south, and the Big 12 is full of dogs. Oregon, Oregon State, USC and Stanford stack up very well against UT, OU, Nebraska and Tech.

    December 3, 2009 at 11:14 a.m.

  • Longhorn's strength of schedule this year is the reason their QB look so good. Easy to look good when playing inferior competition!

    December 3, 2009 at 6:24 a.m.

  • McCoy doesn't deserve it, but he'll get it.

I love the reasoning for some of his supporters.
"It's got to be Colt...Texas Football enough said."
"McCoy. Just has to be that way."
"McCoy will get the trophy. Good line or not, he still is the best."

Air-tight arguments if I've ever heard them. I'd pick Golden Tate.

    December 2, 2009 at 11:08 p.m.

  • McCoy will get the trophy. Good line or not, he still is the best and has proven it. Let his records speak for all to hear. All that oppose will soon eat their words. TEXAS FOOTBALL!!!

    December 2, 2009 at 11:52 a.m.

  • I can see that you guys really agree Colt is the correct choice...let's not forget, he chose to go the UT route verses the Stanford Weak Pac-10 environment...If Gerhart would have made a Big 12 or SEC conference team, he would not have the numbers he has...playing the weaklings for the Pac-10 is the only course he chose...he would not have been half the back he is in a different league...That is why we call it by the numbers, Colt has more offensive purpose yardage than Gerhart's whole college career in this year alone and more tds to boot playing against some of the toughest teams in college football...Tebow the same way just off the numbers a tidbit to garner the award again...

    December 2, 2009 at 11:38 a.m.

  • Agreed. If Daniel Colt McCoy did not have the line and backfield he would be lower rated no doubt.

    Ingram, Tebow tops I think.

I'm wore out hearing about how Colt and Tsippers won everything since before the season ever started.

    December 1, 2009 at 9:56 p.m.

  • McCoy. Just has to be that way. Anytime you set an All Time Record, you have to be considered first and foremost. I would vote Colt first and then Tebow. Everyone else is a distant 3rd.

    December 1, 2009 at 1:55 p.m.

  • It's got to be Colt...Texas Football enough said.

    December 1, 2009 at 12:55 p.m.

  • BillyMau..."I would say Keenum, but Houston had too many bad losses."

Nope...too many UH quarterbacks with Heisman credentials cratered when they started playing for money.

    December 1, 2009 at 12:46 p.m.

  • perhaps, Tebow did not miss any games that I see however, his stats are 1100 yds under those of McCoy and his tds of 17 verses McCoy's 27 are fewer...

on the career stats McCoy's 13,000 yds passing with 112 TD's
as compared to Tebow's 8556 yds passing and 84 tds gives one the feeling that McCoy is not getting the media blitzes others have received.

Lets look at the rushing yds for each..

Tebow in 2009 has rushed for 796 yds 13 tds
McCoy in 2009 has rushed for 368 yds 2 tds

both have 2 more games to play as well to complete college stats...

But, lets face the facts...the Heisman does not always go to the best player just as the BCS National Championship game does not always go to the best teams in college football way to many factors to consider when dollars become involved.

    December 1, 2009 at 11:43 a.m.

  • Colt McCoy now holds the most victories at QB in NCAA history. Granted Tebow looked awesome last weekend but, did everyone forget he went down this year to injury?

These are the 2 leaders in their own respect and have continued to rack up yards, set records, and along with the victories lead to National Championships...

Ingram, had 5 sub-par games to be considered for Heisman maybe 3rd or 4th...he only rushed for 30 yds this past week against Auburn which almost upset Alabama.

Gerhart of Stanford only had 2 sub-par games and has more yardage than Ingram however, those 2 sub-par games accounted for his team losing to weaker ranked teams in Wake Forest and Oregon St. to go along with their other 2 loses and in no way are in contention for National Acclaim as a team. Simply put, he didn't have to face SEC or Big 12 contenders all year.

Now, to Keenum...the loss to Central Florida really hurt him... and some media guys already wrote him off after the game and who can blame them with McCoy and Tebow still unbeaten...

    1)McCoy
    2)Tebow
    3)Gerhart
    4)Keenum
    5)Ingram

    of course, JMTC's

  • Wrong BigOleJay! Colt has done missionary work for two years now in Iquitos, Peru.

    December 1, 2009 at 10:23 a.m.

  • All great candidates Mr. Forman and I like your order of ranking..My choice is Colt McCoy (because after all it is about college football) the fact that he is the winningest quarterback in NCAA history and his percentage of completions are phenomenal. Also a record. The (76.7, in 2008) is more than any other quarterback in the history of the sport.

A great performance Saturday night against Nebraska will remove all doubts.

    December 1, 2009 at 10:17 a.m.

  • Tebow does missionary work in the Phillipines. Did McCoy ever do that?

    NOPE.

    December 1, 2009 at 9:54 a.m.

  • BigOleJay...'My vote goes to Tim Tebow because he loves God and Jesus. LOL"

Yeah, but so does McCoy. He turns every post game interview into a prayer meeting.

    December 1, 2009 at 9:50 a.m.

  • My vote goes to Tim Tebow because he loves God and Jesus. LOL!

    December 1, 2009 at 9:40 a.m.

  • I would say Keenum, but Houston had too many bad losses. I've caught bits and pieces of Stanford's last couple of games and really like Gerhart. He'd get my vote if I were so privileged. Second place to Ingram, third to McCoy.
