The Big 12 South for all its bluster laid an egg on the national stage, going 1-3 in bowl games.

Texas was the only Big 12 South team to win a bowl game, while Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State lost.

The truth hurts and it appears what many SEC fans were saying was true. The big numbers rung up by Big 12 South offenses came against defenses that weren't all that good.

Texas needed a late rally to beat an Ohio State team that played the second half without its best player -- running back Beanie Wells.

Texas Tech and Oklahoma State had their defenses exposed by Mississippi and Oregon, respectively.

Oklahoma's defense played better than it had earlier this season against Florida in the BCS championship game. But the Sooners couldn't make the necessary stops and the defense wasn'tt very good on third downs.

The explosive Big 12 South offenses were exciting, but the old saying still rings true. Defense wins championships.

  • I think the OK loss proves more to the point that it was a mistake to have OK in the Championship game anyway.  It should have been UT.  OK looked in the Florida loss they same way they did in the Texas loss.  Texas would have made the game a game.  And as far as Texas needing a late rally to beat OSU who was playing without their best player, that player wasn't a defensive player.  And I don't remember Forman or any of the other sports writers discrediting USC when they have needed last minute heroics over the years to remain undefeated.  They always stated it proved how good a team they were.  Funny how a last minute win for Texas proves how weak they are.  Oh, I'm pretty sure the OSU fans would take offense intimating they had a week team.
