My son, Ethan, and I were driving through Topanga Canyon back to my sister's house on Sunday after spending the day at Santa Monica beach with my friends Lynnsey and Jason, who had gone to school with me at UCLA. The waves were unusually high and we had a great day wave boarding before heading to Dagwoods in Santa Monica for pizza. My cell phone rang and Ethan said it was work calling. Sports editor Cedric Iglehart was on the phone and he told me about the death of Cuero football player Cole Pargmann. I was stunned and all I had to do was look at the seat next to me to grasp the horror of what happened. A parent should never have to deal with the loss of a child. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Pargmann family and I urge every parent to hug their children and tell them you love them. You never know if you'll get a chance to do it again.
