The stands were full at Gobbler Stadium in Cuero on Friday night and the fans got their money's worth. Cuero and Edna battled for the District 28-3A championship and the Gobblers claimed a 48-32 win. The teams combined for 957 yards of offense and with only four penalties for 25 yards and no turnovers. Edna QB Kam Jones was phenomenal. He passed for 216 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Cuero QB Tyler Arndt played his usual solid game. He carried only three times but two went for TDs. He also passed for 162 yards and two touchdowns, including some critical fourth-down conversions. The difference was Cuero's running game where Trent Jackson rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns and Andrew Thibodeaux had 104 yards and one touchdown. Lost in the excitement, was the punting of Arndt, who had two for a 41.5-yard average, and Jones, who had four for a 40.8 average. Edna surrendered 344 yards rushing, but tackled fairly well or it could have been worse. At halftime, Arthur Whittington and Rodney Pedraza were inducted into the Cuero Gobbler Hall of Fame. A reception was held for the honorees before the game. Former Cuero coach Buster Gilbreth was there along with Gobbler Hall of Famer Henry Sheppard. Cuero and Edna will benefit from the game as they head into the playoffs. The fans got to experience what makes Friday night football in Texas so special.
