Talk about breaking your heart. The Los Angeles Dodgers did that on Monday night. One out away from victory and tying the NLCS at 2-2, Jimmy Rollins hit a two-run double into the gap to give the Phillies a commanding series lead. Watching Jonathan Broxton meltdown was painful. But in truth, the Dodgers began to unravel in the eighth inning. Reliever George Sherrill, who had issued two walks before a three-run bomb in Game 1, walked and hit a batter and had to be relieved by Broxton with two outs. Broxton got himself in trouble by issuing a four-pitch walk to the "under the Mendoza line" Matt Stairs, who had hit a two-run home run off him in last year's NLCS with one out in the ninth. He then hit Carlos Ruiz before getting pinch hitter Greg Dobbs to hit a soft liner for the second out. That brought Rollins to the plate and he was clutch. The odds of coming back from a 3-1 deficit are 15 percent. I'd feel a lot better about the Dodgers' chances if they had someone with the guts and tenacity of Orel Hershiser.
