My Heisman Trophy ballot is due by Monday. I already have a good idea of who I will vote for and I’ll let you know in my column on Thursday. But I’m interested in your views. Would you vote for Auburn’s Cam Newton or are you bothered by allegations that his father sought money for Newton to play at Mississippi State? Have you seen Oregon running back LeMichael James, who played high school football in Texas? What do you think of quarterbacks Andrew Luck of Stanford, Andy Dalton of TCU and Kellen Moore of Boise State? Your opinions are welcome, although I may not heed your advice.

  • Personally, what Cam Newton has done on the field is amazing passing for over 2200 yards and rushing for over 1300 more and is definitely worthy of the Heisman Trophy. However, it is what he has done off the field that makes him unworthy in my eyes. If Reggie Bush gave his back (although he was never formally asked to do so) because of off the field activities, I do not believe that Cam Newton should be awarded it in the first place. On the flip side, there is no conclusive evidence stating that he personally did anything wrong, but I have an extremely hard time believing that he had no idea of the things his father was supposedly doing. So, this is a very tricky situation, but based on the allegations, I would have to give it to someone else. My pick would be LaMichael James who is have an excellent season with Oregon rushing for over 1500 yards in 10 games. Newton may be the better player, but amateur athletics is amateur athletics which means certain rules have to be followed and I do not think that Newton has followed all of these rules (although I could very well be wrong).
