An article in the military publication Stars and Stripes yesterday outlined the latest catastrophe for our nation's servicemen and servicewomen. Surprisingly this article, which is very important news for our active servicemen, did not end up in the Advocate as far as I can tell. Now, it seems, it will be nearly impossible for Marines and other military branches to earn their Bachelor degrees with major cutbacks for tuition assistance for off-duty soldiers. This latest blow for our troops is one of the biggest - in my opinion - because now the armed services can no longer truthfully say it provides our soldiers with an opportunity for education. So, let me check my list of reasons to join up with the military these days: hm, I can't really think of any....

(BTW, any of you who are going to blame Obama for this one - hold right there. Obama has no say over how the DoD spends it's allowance, the DoD made this decision all by themselves, even amidst NO budget cutbacks. That means, the money is there, but the DoD has allocated it to other projects. So sad.)
