  • In a statewide race for Texas Supreme Court, Place 9, the incumbent is Eva Guzman, a Republican. I have noticed that in her commercials on radio, Justice Guzman has been touting her support by various law enforcement groups, with some of the group's spokesmen endorsing her because of her law and order stance.

The Supreme Court of Texas is the court of last resort for CIVIL matters in the State of Texas. I think Justice Guzman is trying to fool some voters into thinking she's a tough on crime judge who will likely uphold CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS. Nothing could be farter from the truth, since no criminal cases are ever heard by the Supreme Court in Texas. Those cases are heard by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

Now, either Justice Guzman is confused about the nature of the Supreme Court or she is trying to deceive the voters with her appeal to law and order types. In either case, I think she's shown herself to the unworthy of the seat on the Court and should not be returned to the bench.

  • Matt, I was very impressed with the level of respect Perkes & Green had for the Constitution & Rule of Law and their recognition of the rightful role of judges, which is obviously essential to the judiciary craft but not always the case.
