Image In case you got carried away with all the political pundits spin from the State of the Union speech this week, President Obama once again called attention to the fact that the United States was falling behind in developing green energy. Mr. Obama pointed out that the industries of tomorrow will take root in other countries if Congress fails to act.

While we were napping, China has surpassed Denmark, Germany, Spain and the United States to become the world’s largest maker of wind turbines.

China also happens to be the world’s largest manufacturer of solar panels. Would you be surprised to learn that China is also working hard to build nuclear reactors?

While we continue to depend on oil from the Mideast, China is developing the technologies of renewable energy. Unless we act soon we will find ourselves relying on solar panels, wind turbines and other renewable energy technologies manufactured in China.

To bridge the gap to wind, solar, nuclear, and other renewable energy we need to exploit the potential of shale oil and gas, much of it found right here in South Texas in the Eagle Ford formation. It is time for Congress to stop playing games and the Republicans need to stop their destructive game of "Just Say No."
